Thanks to all of you that have emailed or tweeted me asking about my mom.  I love you for that!

Mom is keeping her positive attitude.  Chemo started yesterday and quite frankly - she's exhausted and nauseous.  But, we know that given some rest and good anti-nausea meds that she'll feel better in a few days.

I'm sure that the next four months will hold some ups and downs.  Mom is already starting to talk about doing the Avon Breast Cancer walk next year though.  She's something else!  Our next landmark will be the loss of her hair.  I'm told that there's a chance it won't fall out, but it's highly likely. To prepare for this, mom has spoken to our hairdresser and Ed is ready and willing to shave her head for her.  I'll be there to cheer her on (and take pictures)!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is this week dragging for anyone else?  Bueller?  Bueller?  Oh, speaking of... did anyone else tear up during the John Hughes montage during the Oscars?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And... finally; Carmella says "hi".  I don't think I talk about her enough.  She's such a sweetie!

  2. well Hello Cole. I just found your blog through Tidy Mom through the Nester. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom...How old is she? I have a blog to and I too also am battling breast cancer and I'll be starting Chemo in the next few weeks. I want to wish you and your family well in the up coming trying times but they say a positive attitude is a lot.

So glad that your mom's spirits are good although the nausea has got to be horrible. Praying that the anti-nausea meds work really fast.

  6. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this week is taking FOREVER. I thought it was just because Nate is out of town, but maybe it really just is the longest week ever!

  9. Hi Carmella! I bet your siblings don't play in the snow with you do they? Silly wiener dogs!
I know that chemo affects everyone differently but my grandma did much better with it than she thought she would. Her doc recommended she get a wig fairly early (it was covered by her insurance) and at 3 weeks have someone shave her head. It was right at the 3 week mark when she noticed she was losing more hair so we thought that was good advice. Grandma only has 2 more treatments left so if you have any questions or just need to vent let us know. Mom and I are here for you

  10. How could you not talk more about Carmella? I mean, look at her! She's gorgeous!

Wow. Your mom has a WONDERFUL outlook on her disease. I would be so very very proud of her and how brave she is.

This is going to sound so stupid, but my biggest fear about some day getting cancer, isn't actually the cancer, but the treatment because of my puking phobia. Is the medication helping her in that regard?

As for the stylist shaving her head, I wanna tell you what my friend did. She made one pony tail for each of her children. Each child cut off their ponytail, then each got a turn with the razor. They took lots of pictures and made it into a kind of celebration of her strength.

  11. I'm glad your mom is keeping a positive attitude, that is great! She is in my thoughts, I think that her planning on the Avon walk is a great thing--anything that keeps her looking into the future will keep her chin up.

I love the picture of your little girl in the snow, we don't do snow, but it looks like she is enjoying it.

I love the new book site idea. I am going to pop over there when I am done catching up on all the ones I have neglected over the last month because of school. I just started a Jodi Picolt book.
