Dear Neighbor...

I bought my house two months ago, and still haven't met my next door neighbor.  Here are my thoughts on him so far!

Dear Neighbor...
I hear that you're a state cop.  Can I tell you how safe that makes me feel?!  Of course, the folks I bought this house from BS'd me on a number of levels...so maybe you're not a cop after all.  Perhaps you just work really weird hours.  Could you wear a uniform so I can tell for sure?

Neighbor, it's nice to know that you have an active social life.  I also realize that you have a small-ish driveway and we live on a main street.  I'm sure that trying to fit a bunch of cars into your driveway for poker night (or whatever it is) is difficult.  However, if you could NOT park in my driveway without asking - that would be super!  Please know that I'm a fairly reasonable person, but I have this thing about being able to get into my driveway after working a 10-12 hour day.

I hear your dog all the time!  I've seen him a few times too.  He's big, he's black, he's cute.  The "beware of dog" signs you have posted make me a little nervous though.  Is he a working dog?  Are the signs up because he's actually aggressive?  I'd really like the low-down before my "kids" meet him through the fence between our yard.

One last question, neighbor.  Is it really necessary to have the flood light in your yard on all night?  I only ask because that light shines in directly though my bedroom window.  You see, I'm an insomniac and that amount of light all the time disrupts the the little sleep I get.

Thanks, neighbor!  I hope to meet you soon!

  1. Haha! I lived in my house for almost 18 months and I still haven't met my neighbor even though I see her at least once a day. How weird is that?

  3. Aren't neighbors wonderful?! There are days that I want to move to the county and have my closest neighbor be miles away. I really should complain though, it could be a lot worse.

  5. LOL, Bless your heart. I've met my neighbor only once, to return his "inside" dog that they decided to leave outside for weeks in the dead of winter. It decided to take out it's aggression of that experience on our patio furniture. since then I've had the, hmmm...let's just sarcastically call it "joy" of meeting all 7 of the cats they own. The 12-13ish yr old daughter LOVES Kittens so "mommy cat" gets to have litter after litter but daughter doesnt like cats from "teenager to adult size" so outside of mommmy cat, once the kittens have grown out of the palm of her hand she dumps them outside and no longer feeds them so my cat gets a lot of company and a lot of heads in her feed bowl. I Love my neighbors. I hope they never move. Running a kennel is something I have always wanted to incorporate into my busy schedule :) Did I mention daughter got a pool 2 years ago? Swam in it a whole 2 times then left it sitting, the water stagnating, turning a nice swampy green color. Now it is to the ground...did that slowly, on its own. (one of those rubbery "kettle" shaped pools) It's been great for hatching out all the lovely mosquitoes ;)

  6. I'm laughing so hard right now! What a great post! When my new neighbors moved in next door, I would send my husband over with different treats I cooked or baked. He quickly made friends with them so now I have my husband do the dirty work of setting them straight on the rules of "our street". Keep your wandering, barking dog out of our trash, yard (we stepped in a few of those special piles he left), and the middle of the street when I'm trying to get in my driveway. Put up your huge hockey goal, kids bikes/toys, and water hoses after you use them. Don't block our driveway with all the parties you have. And finally, don't send your kids over to our house after my kids have gone to bed and knock for 30 minutes straight asking if they can come out and play (I don't answer the door after dark!) Good luck with your neighbor-maybe it will get better. Do you like your new house?

  7. OMG! I die. That's all so funny - and crazy! Our cul-de-sac is very quiet, we've met the neighbors, but it's not a "talk/hangout/get to know each other" kind of neighborly fun. Oh well. LOL. I hope you meet your neighbor soon!

  8. Ok, make some cookies and go over there and meet him!! Then you can get the scoop for who he is. Hopefully strike up a nice conversation and address some of your issues. Hope it works out well!

  9. I say march over there and say hello! That way you can find out about the dog, the job and ask him to not park in the driveway!

  10. Hi Cole....I saw you over on Twix's blog and thought I stop by to say hi!! I am Madi the cat but I have lots of Doxie friends like Twix, Lorenza, the infamous Puddles, Ruthie and the crew at Minna K. Mom wanted to tell you she sympathizes with you over the neighbor. We have similar issues with parking. They have lots of gatherings. All of the peoples park all over the cul-de-sac. If anyone else was having a gathering they would be out of luck. Butt the worst is the huge flood light that shines in Mom and Dad's bedroom window. Mom has to have 100% perfect sleeping conditions too. For years they called every time the flood light was on. Only to have them do it again a few days later. Finally Mom and Dad bought room darkening shades. It has made all the differences. Their room is totally dark now. They weren't happy to have to spend the money but it just was easier than getting out of bed and calling every time.
Inconsiderate folks should be made to live in the same neighborhood. We hope you can find a solution soon.

  11. We met our neighbor's on Halloween, which was almost a year since we moved here. Thy had moved in a week prior to us. We are not the friendly type...duh. I love the empty lots next to us on the other side, and am hoping no one chooses to build...yeah, right. Wanna move? You'd love us, because we keep to ourselves, rarely have guests, don't have pets, and do not have any outdoor lights.

  12. LOL - You HAVE to go over with a plate of cookies. Then you can find out the scoop. And you can tell a lot about a person about how they react to a plate of cookies.....

  13. Sounds like it's time to go introduce yourself to your neighbor. Perhaps if they know you they'll be less inclined to do some of these things.
    Happy Thanksgiving!
