Vote For Paisley...PLEASE!

OK...I promise I'll have a post soon that isn't centered around my awesome, gorgeous, smart, cuddly babies!

But first....please consider voting for Paisley.  As you all know, I'm one of Furever Dachshund Rescue's Foster Coordinators, their blogger and the one in charge of Happy Tails (ie. post adoption follow-up).  PetFinder has just started a "Luckiest Pet" contest and I entered Paisley.  The prize is $5,000 for the shelter/rescue of my choice (in this case FDR) and a $500 Petco gift card for Paisley.

Click on Paisley to go to her entry on Petfinder.com

Voting is daily through March 17th (or maybe it's the 18th...I need to double check!).  Thanks in advance for supporting me as I support animal rescue.  If you do vote - please let me know so Paisley and I can thank you individually!

Happy 1st Birthday Paisley & Brady!

An excerpt from my Furever Dachshund Rescue blog post:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO:
APOLLO, BEAN, BRADY, DUDLEY, LILLY BELLA, MAE, OLIVE, AND PAISLEY!!!!

A little over a year ago FDR took in Lulu and Angelo, a set of dachshunds in California. Like so many dachshunds that we rescue – they were fearful and living in conditions far beneath what they deserved. We quickly realized that we not only had two beautiful dachshunds that were in need of a new start, but Lulu was pregnant with an astonishing 8 PUPPIES!! You can see Lulu and Angelo’s “puppy shower” below.

Angelo found his furever home quickly with a California-based volunteer and Lulu made her way back east to deliver her babies.

On February 17th, under the watchful eye of our Chair, Laura and her two daughters – Lulu delivered all 8 gorgeous puppies! In rescue, we’re used to NOT knowing the full story. To rescue a pair; find out that the female is pregnant…and with such a large litter is really uncommon. To us, these babies are something to celebrate!

Because I haven't asked the other moms if I can show off their babies on my blog - I'll refer you HERE for all the cuteness that is the other six puppies.

Paisley and Brady,
I knew I was ready to add another puppy to my pack...but NEVER envisioned that I'd be adding two at a time.  Thank you both for all the joy, love, comedy and mischief that comes packed into your little (or in Brady's case, moose-like) bodies!

In your short lives you've cleaned up my tears, made me laugh hysterically, and forced me to do more laundry than I thought was humanly possible.

Thank you!  I can't wait to see what the next year brings us.

Love,
Your momma

P.S.  I'm sorry I celebrated your birthday by going to the Boston Wine Expo.  You're getting plenty of treats and toys to make up for it.

Updates...And Other Randomness

OK. I'm back.  I promise!

Blogging on an almost daily basis was ingrained in me for so long.  Then I took a break...and it's hard to get back in the blogging groove.  I didn't realize how hard it was to start again until I sat staring at a blank screen for over an hour last week.

Anywho...I have a few updates for you!
(Cue the bullet points)
  • Thanks to my awesome cousin and fabulous friend - I temped at their office during the holidays for a co-worker who had to be out for a few months.  I was heartbroken when I was told two weeks ago that I wasn't needed anymore.  But guess what?!
  • Today was my first day back in the office!!!  It's only part time for now, but I'm thrilled!  Cross your fingers that it turns into a full time gig. :-)
  • This week I'll also be following up another part time position.   I still want to pursue nursing school, and this position will lead me in that direction.
  • THANK YOU for all the prayers about my dad the past few days!!!  He's doing well and has been released from the hospital.  For those of you not on Twitter: My parents have been in Hawaii for the month of January essentially.  They made it to the last of their timeshare locations and went for a walk near Poipu.  Dad tripped, fell into a metal door /doorjam and split his head open.  Seriously - a 20cm or so split down to the skull that tore muscle.  He had to have surgery to repair the damage.
  • I'm debating whether or not to retire Tuesdays At The Table.  Fewer and fewer people were participating...and as much as I REALLY want to keep it going, I don't want to torture you all with recipes you won't use.
  • Being a Foster Coordinator, blogger and in charge of post-adoption follow up for Furever Dachshund Rescue has been busier than ever!  I promise I won't litter my personal blog with plights for help...but if you ever feel the calling to volunteer at events, help transport dogs, foster or adopt - I'd be happy to talk to you about it. :-)
  • Speaking of adoption - my brother and his girlfriend adopted from FDR this weekend.  She's one of eight puppies that was born to Molly the beagle (Yes, I know...we, as a doxie rescue do take other breeds occassionally!) and an unknown breed dad.  Meet Leia!!!

A "Conversation" With My Herd...

I spent my Saturday night doing a transport for Furever Dachshund Rescue.  My older two are used to this...but it's the first transport run I've done (outside of a few owner surrenders) since the babies have joined the family.

To say that I got accosted when I walked in the door is an understatement. Our conversation went a little like this:

Beckett: Mom!  Where have you been? Do you know what time it is?!
Me: Yes, I do.  It's quarter past one in the morning.  Now go back to sleep!
Paisley: Momma, why do you smell like...um...dogs?
Me: That's because I had to help two doggies meet their furever families.
Brady: Did you bring them home, momma?  Can I meet them?!  PLAY?!?!?!
Me: No.  They traveled all day and I handed them over to their new people.
Paisley: Were they cute?  They smell cute.
Me: Yes, Pais.  They were cute!  In fact, one of them was named Paisley!  But she was a Pomeranian that hitched a ride on our transport.  She looked nothing like you.
Beckett/Brady: Mom, we smell a boy too!
Me: That would be Rosco.  You know his foster mom, Auntie Elaina in PA.  He got a new parents and a new fur brother tonight.
Paisley: Momma, next time can I go for the ride too?  I promise not to let any other family keep me.

Meadow: SHHHH!!!! I'Z SLEEPING!

Winter Weinerland Auction - Now Live!

As a foster coordinator and board member for Furever Dachshund Rescue, I am proud to announce that our Winter Weinerland Auction has now gone live! Please visit our auction – we are sure you’ll find a lot of fun stuff that you’d be happy to give as presents during the holidays – or better yet – keep for yourself! The best part is helping deserving dachshunds while you shop.

The auction will run through 10 PM EST on November 26. Please note that individual items may run slightly longer, as an auction winner is declared five minutes after the last bid.

There are plenty of things I’d like to see Santa Paws bring me from this auction. Here are a few:

Beth Oram Pet Photography - Who wouldn’t want their precious fur-babies to have their own photo shoot?

Orlando Fantasy Family Vacation - A five-day/four night package to Orlando will make any woman feel like a Princess!

Microfiber Dachshund Sheet Set (Queen) – Dream of dachshunds, while you’re dreaming *with* your dachshunds!

Scentsy Hatteras Warmer and Scent Bar - A great way to keep your home smelling fresh and because Scentsy uses a lightbulb warmer instead of flame, it’s pet friendly!

Click HERE for our full listings. Bid high and help us help doxies!

Mid-Atlantic Dachshund Phest

Today I should be on a road trip from New England down to Manassas, VA for the Mid-Atlantic Dachshund Phest.  Unfortunately, I'm not going to be going...and I'm kinda bummed about it.  Next year though...  DEFINITELY!!

If you're in VA (or quasi local and are up for some free fun, drop by the Doxie Phest and go visit all my Furever Dachshund Rescue friends.  Tell them I sent you.  :-)  With weiner dog races, a Hallo-weenie costume parade, raffles, vendors and a kissing booth or two - you're in for a great day!

And while you're there... pick up some yummy dog treats that I baked for the phest!  (I'm fairly sure that I'll be selling them on Etsy soon too.)

*Have you signed up for the toy and treat swap yet?  There's still time.  Click here!*

Wordless Wednesday (sorta) - Brady Edition

I still have to get the paperwork from FDR, but I'm officially a "foster failure".

This dude is staying put!  And I couldn't be more excited.

I've know since the beginning that he was meant to stay with Meadow, Beckett, Paisley and I.  He just *fits*.  Even my veterinarian told me that I HAD to keep him!  Tell me something I don't know, doc. :-)

Here's to a lifetime of Paisley trying to smother you in your sleep little man!

Oh...since he's been "Brady" from the beginning, I'm going to keep his name.  If I could have chosen a different name, I would have, but whatever.  I, do, however need a middle name.  Suggestions?!  Reminder: I like outdoorsy/hippie name.  (ie. Meadow Breeze, Beckett Scout, Paisley Skye)

Tuesdays At The Table - 7Up Biscuits

Howdy, ladies! Is everyone have a good week so far?  I'm prepping for a really busy week - my CNA state exam (pray for me, if you're so inclined!), a trip to VT to pick up more foster pups and bring them to their foster home, the March of Dimes walk this weekend and a whole boatload of errands.  Add potty training and socialization of two puppies and I'm exhausted just thinking about it! :-)
We're heading into almost 100 degree weather this week too.  Which to me, means salads - and LOTS of them.  I like a roll with my salad, and this recipe is quick, easy and pretty frugal. {Recipe and picture are via Pinterest.}

7Up Biscuits

2 cups Bisquick
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup 7-up
1/4 cup melted butter
Cut sour cream into biscuit mix, add 7-Up. Makes a very soft dough.
Sprinkle additional biscuit mix on board or table and pat dough out. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a 9 inch square pan. Place cut biscuits in pan and bake at 450 degrees until golden brown (about 15 minutes).
What's cooking in your kitchen?

A Dose of Random...Or, How I Spent My Weekend

Happy Monday!  My brain is a smidge fried, so I'll be employing bullet points to keep from completely boring you (hopefully). :-)

  • Thank you all for the support that you've given me in changing careers.  Tuesday I'll be doing the final exam for the Home Health Aide portion of the class.  Any quick prayers that I don't have a brain freeze will be appreciated.
  • The remainder of the week I have skills labs, where I'm going to get paired with the person either before me or after me alphabetically.  That means I either have someone who is afraid to touch people...or doesn't speak English.  I apologize in advance for any venting that may be sited here later in the week.
  • Saturday I did my class project on Cancer.  It's fabulous people...believe me on that. :-)
  • While that was happening, I had a plumber come and steal all my money!  Well...he did replace the faucets in my kitchen and downstairs bathroom, but it wasn't fun paying that bill!
  • Then, I got to hang out with Kristin to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
Mixed berry Margaritas!

  • Sunday Meadow & Beckett enjoyed sunbathing at my parent's.  They also spent some time scavenging the back yard for dandelion greens.  I think I might have miniature goats instead of dachshunds...
  • If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I'm a bit heart-broken.  I've learned that I either won't be getting a new puppy from the rescue I volunteer for, or it will take at least another two months.  I don't blame them at all...it's totally the state of MA.  They are making it very difficult for people here to adopt from out of state.  Never mind that "my" puppy is no more than 50 miles away from me! Just thinking about it still makes me teary.

Sunbathing puppers!

This week's 3 on Thursday question:
Share three secret single behaviors (Remember the SATC episode? Things you do you wouldn't want a man to see you doing)!
