A Pupdate on Meadow...

I know that some of you don't view dogs as fur-kids the way I do, so I won't take any offense if you skip this post.  :-)

Now, on the the pupdate...

We're hanging in.  We've spoken to multiple vets at my regular practice and at the emergency practice.  Everyone is quite confident that we can get Meadow to heal using non-surgical means.  HURRAY!

Our biggest hurdle is pain management.  She is now on a sedative, two pain relievers, a stomach acid reducer (pain pills are NOT easy on the tummy) and an anti-inflammatory.  Because she's so uncomfortable, we aren't sleeping and she refuses to be put down.  To say that my arms hurt from carrying her 24/7 is an understatement.

This morning I did crate her so I could start some laundry.  She immediately started yanking on the bars and got both her upper and lower jaws stuck in the bars.  I got her out in a matter of seconds - but she has a bump on her muzzle and upper right lip.  I feel like a horrible mom...

Despite all of this - she does seem to be healing.  We're now up to 3-4 steps before she crosses her back legs and the ataxia takes over.  PROGRESS!

While she heals, I'm accepting all offers of chocolate, coffee and wine.  Not necessarily in that order.  :-)

  1. Girl, you need da hard stuff...I would recommend vodka...straight.
I has been away and is catchin' up. I am horrified to read dis bout Meadow. My brudder was paralyzed and had emergency surgery so we knows all too well how heartbreakin' dis is fur you.
Your not a bad mom fur cratin' tryin' to keep her safe.
We is sendin' our thoughts and vibes to ya'll.

  2. Poor pooch :( I hope she feels better soon!

  3. Oh meadow! Glad to hear that she is healing. I'm a big furbaby mama supporter. Sounds like you two a very lucky to have one another. Sending healing thoughts your way!

  4. Hoping she's back to her doxie ways very soon!

  5. Ugh. You are a very very good mom. Keep up the good work. Praying for all of you.

  6. Good news that she is healing. You may need to get one of those baby carriers/slings. I can only imagine that once she is all better, she is still going to love being carried. Hope Meadow continues to get better more and more every day!

  7. Oh Meadow. Get better soon, my love. Your mommy needs you to feel better. There's nothing worse than a sick pup because they can't tell you what's wrong or how to fix it. Hang in there honey, you're doing a great job!

  8. Poor little baby! You're not a bad mom at all! Please, get well soon Meadow!
    Nola and Mom

  14. I'm sorry I haven't been by sooner to tell you I am thinking of you and Meadow. It just hurts my heart to know he (and you!) are hurting. I am thinking of you both and I hope you can get some rest soon!

  15. My mom and dad view me the same way you view your fur-kids, so we're very sorry to hear about Meadow. We hope she continues to heal and feel better. We'll be thinking about her.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  16. I'm so glad that she is making progress but it hurts my heart that she is in pain. I hope that she is able to heal without surgery. The family and I are including her in our prayers.
