Scenes From A Commute

I spend A LOT of time in my car commuting back and forth to work.  Luckily, I really like my car - and have fun driving.  :-)

I have seen some WEIRD stuff lately though!  In the few weeks I have been witness to the following:

  • A week and a half ago - A driver with his left leg hanging out the window.  Yes, sir - I understand that your tall.  However, that's one party trick I don't need to see again!  I was afraid you were going to lose your leg when another car passed you.  (He wasn't really in danger of losing his leg...I just get nervous about that kind of stuff!)
  • Last Saturday - A black lab in the back of a pick-up truck.  Not tethered, not leashed, not buckled in - STANDING UP as his/her owner went barrelling down the highway.  Maybe I'm a bitch - but I view this as animal cruelty.  No one EVER intends for their beloved pet to get injured - but putting that pet in a position that increases the odds is COMPLETELY unacceptable to me.  Plus...I kinda think it's illegal in Massachusetts.  I'll have to research that.
  • Yesterday - Someone eating soup while driving home.  Not horrible...just weird!  And how do you not wear half your soup?  Do you steer with your knees so you can keep the bowl in one hand and the spoon in the other?
  • Last Tuesday - A car coming from the opposite direction weaving in and out of traffic by the mall.  This driver was weaving and speeding so much that he/she lost control of the car and flipped over.  There is nothing at the mall that's worth almost killing yourself!
  • Today - Three motorcycles popping wheelies in the middle of rush hour traffic.  Dumb asses happened to do this for the third or fourth time after a large bend in the road - and right into the sight line of a state cop.  I laughed for a good five minutes as they got pulled over. (Yes, I'm mean!)
  • And the piece de resistance - last Thursday. Whilst sitting in traffic as I headed towards the Cape, I had the distinct pleasure *gag* of seeing a couple being intimate.  Sure, kiss and hug in the car.  That's your run of the mill PDA.  However, when my SUV looks down into your little red sports car and sees a bobbing head, you've crossed the line of acceptable behavior.  Um, hi!  It's light out!  You're engaging in a sexual activity in PUBLIC!  My lane of traffic moved faster than yours... at least 4 more cars had to pass you!  And finally - EWWWW!  Bring that car for a wash (inside and out) now-ish please!
So...see anything weird while driving lately?

An Office Invasion

I mentioned before that my building at work has been invaded with these teeny, tiny fruit-fly like things. At this point we are pretty sure that they are actually fungus flies.

Unfortunately - that hasn't made building management do anything to get rid of them. Instead, we spend all day looking like idiots trying to swat away or kill these stupid things.

I had an epiphany. (I know; soooo unexpected!) There's a way to get rid of these little suckers and have fun doing it....kinda.

This swatter uses 2 "D" batteries and zaps flies, mosquitoes, etc with 1500 volts. It says that there is no messy clean-up, but then state that the offending winged creature "explodes". I, for one, think that just might create a mess.

Do you have one of these? If so, I want to hear all about it before I buy them for everyone in my department!

And, yes, I'm shocked at myself that I'm actually doing a post on insects. Sigh.

It Makes Me Smile

Sorry for the randomness... but I'm have a smidge of trouble writing a "pretty" post tonight. You all know I love bullet points, so let's bring 'em on!

  • My company has gone a little overboard on the H1N1 precautions. We have been sent a letter banning us from business travel to Mexico, and it has been highly "suggested" that we best not presume we're allowed to vacation there either. The following sign has been posted in our bathroom. Don't y'all know how to wash your hands? I do!! And I bet you do too! However, this sign will come into play in a few minutes too... There are also little signs and bottles of hand sanitizer everywhere you turn. OK, I realize that we're a VERY large healthcare corporation and that we'd look like complete idiots if it ever turned out one of our employees got "The Swine"...but we aren't five years old.

  • When last I spoke of the Ladies of Uzbekistan, it was to mention their "interesting" sense of style. It turns out - style is the least of their worries. They are very likely the ones that are the intended audience of our many, many workplace signs. One of them walked into that bathroom with me, used the facilities, came out, looked at the sign and walked out the door. Without.washing.her.hands. Uh, 'scuse me...but the instructions weren't an option. It isn't a multiple choice thing (A. Wash your hands the way WE tell you too. B. Don't wash up and just leave); you need to wash your hands!! ICK!

  • YAY for an awesome eBay purchase. I won 2 bottles of OPI Sweet Heart nail polish for $2.98. Go me! Now if I could just win the Havaianas flip-flops I've been bidding on. :-)

  • I have a new favorite song (see video below), and am considering a weekly feature called Musical Mondays. A random new song that I think you should listen too; and I have really random taste...so you could be in store for quite a treat. Heeheehee. What do you think? Is it something that you'd read/listen to?

A Hershey's Resolution

Today was a long day, and I was surprised to see an envelope from Hershey's when I checked the mail on my way in the door.

In a way - I'm pleasantly surprised that they took the time to respond to my complaint. On the other hand - it seems that a hair through the middle of a Reese's cup (or egg in this case) should be worth more than $9.00 in Hershey bucks. Maybe I just have unfair expectations.... Either way, it'll keep my candy jar in the office full for a month!

No clue what I'm talking about? Click here and then here...

Hershey's Responds

Thank you all for your suggestion to contact Hershey's and share my hairy experience. I don't like to complain...but they really should know about this stuff.

Anywho....

I got a response from Hershey's Consumer Relations department this afternoon.

Thank you for contacting us about REESE'S peanut butter egg. I am sorry to learn of your experience and apologize for the concern this has caused you.Our manufacturing facilities have a comprehensive quality assurance program in place which is taken very seriously. All manufacturing employees and plant visitors are required to wear hair nets and beard nets at all times. This program, as well as a variety of other techniques, helps ensure that our consumers receive a quality product. The information you provided is very helpful. It has been reported to our Quality Assurance Department for review with the manufacturing area.We apologize for the problem you experienced with our product. You will receive reimbursement by postal mail in 2-4 weeks. We appreciate your loyalty as a consumer.

Anyone want to bet that I get a 50 cent coupon in the mail?!?! I guess I'll let you know in...um... 2-4 weeks. All I really wanted was for them to agree that what happened was gross but it would have been cool if they had sent me a gift basket to make up for it! :-)

Dear Hersheys...

Dear Hershey's-
I love your candy! Chocolate kisses; those cute little miniatures; the classic Hershey bar. My favorite candy of yours is by far Reese's Peanut Butter cups. I love them suckers! Make them cute little shapes for holidays... even better! It's like a moth to a flame.

I've had the privilege of visiting Hershey, PA too. You've got great kitschy street lamps topped with faux Hershey kisses. Love 'em. Soooo cute! The ride through your factory smells awesome (naturally!), and the gift shop at the end was a thing of marketing genius. I appreciate the stellar roller coasters in your theme park. So much fun; well worth a road trip for those with kids.

However, after all these kudos... I have to tell you that I'm a little less than happy right now. Know those Peanut Butter Cups I mentioned above? Yeah... I broke open a nice egg shaped one today on the way home from a long day of work. What do I find?!?! HAIR!!!!

That's right. Hair. Running through my candy. ALL the way through the candy.

I know we're in a recession. But... I think that you can still afford hair nets. Please tell me that you can afford hair nets for my sanity; but mostly because I don't want to forgo your candy for the rest of my natural life.

Cuz right now, I'm a little grossed out...
