Book Club & 3 on Thursday

Howdy!  It's that time again... Mrs. Jones and I are announcing the August book club selection.  We promise (or I promise on behalf of both of us) that we'll be more organized next month and you all will have more time to vote on the book.  Please email one of us or leave us a comment if you have any book suggestions.

This month, we'll be reading:

Between the Lines

A few of you rather astute lovelies noticed that there wasn't a 3 on Thursday post last week.  Last week the topic was "should we keep this linky going".  My post didn't go up as scheduled...and quite frankly - I forgot about it.

Which means, I'm asking you now.  Do you enjoy 3 on Thursday?  Do you always skip it when Andrea and I post it?  We both really enjoy it - but we only want to continue if you do too, and if you'd consider joining in the fun from time to time.  Until we make real decision, we'll be taking a hiatus for a few weeks.

3 on Thursday - Fall TV

Happy Thursday!  The gorgeous Andrea and I are ready for another round of "3 on Thursday"!  Are you?!  Speaking of my co-host...have you visited her yet?  You should.  She's way cooler than me!

3 on Thursday

This week's topic:
What three shows you are looking forward to seeing return in the fall?

This is a hard one for me!  {don't judge...} There are so many shows that I'm looking forward to seeing return this fall.  I'm the geek that puts together a schedule of what shows are premiering and when they start for maximum viewing/DVR'ing coverage.

I can't wait for NCIS!!  They left quite the cliff-hanger, and honestly, I'll be really upset if Ducky (or any of the other major characters) dies.

{via}
Scandal only had a short run last season, but I love good political drama!

Rumor has it that this week be the last season of Bones.  I've been hooked on this show from the beginning...and if it really is the end, I hope that Booth and Bones get married.

Runners up:
NCIS: LA
Once Upon A Time
Dancing With The Stars
Castle
Grey's Anatomy

3 on Thursday - Celebrity BFF

Programming note: my wordless Wednesday (aka "here, look at my fur-kids") post didn't go up as scheduled.  Darn you, Blogger!  Look for puppy cuteness on Friday instead. :-)
OK...now, where were we?  Are you having  fabulous week?!  I hope so!  I also hope you're visiting my lovely co-host, Andrea.  She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met and you should be reading her blog.  True story!

3 on Thursday

Please remember that this is a “few rules” linky, so please post about the weekly topic in order to link up. Be sure to link to your specific blog post and not your blog. Any blogs linked just to get increased traffic (ie. totally off topic) will be deleted. Please don't make us do that! Finally - please do us a favor and visit some of the other ladies to see their answers!
This week' topic:
What three celebrities would you most like to be BFF’s with?

Emma Stone. She seems so down to earth, has great style and I want the scoop on kissing Ryan Gosling!

Piper Perabo. I love her on Covert Affairs, she seems so fun, and she actually answers when you send her a tweet. (Of course, she's new to twitter, so who knows how long she'll be able to keep up with people asking questions.) Love that!!!

Reese Witherspoon. She is so pretty, fills every interview I've seen her on with Southern charm, and if what the gossip mags say is true - is one strict momma!  She totally seems like someone that I'd watch to hang out with on a regular basis.

3 on Thursday - Favorite Vacations

Before we start, please take minute and welcome back my lovely co-host, and one of my besties, Andrea!  She took a little break, but she's back and better than ever!
Did everone enjoy their little break from 3 on Thursday?  I did! Sometimes, we all need a little breather.  :-)  We have some great topics this month - I bet you'll love them!

3 on Thursday

This week's topic:
Vacation Plans - tell us about your 3 best vacations, or the plans you have had/are planning for this summer!

London, England
You all know how much I love Europe, right?! Well, I think I could probably move to the UK without a problem (you know, as long as I can bring my dogs and my family/friends).

Disney!  I need to go every few years and act like a little kid!  I was lucky that my parents brought me every few years - my first trip was at 2 years old - and I think it's one of those places that ALL kids should go at least once by the time they leave elementary school.

The first time I went to Sedona, Arizona was on a business trip.  I've gone back a few times since and just love it there.  It has shops and artist communities and great food - all without compromising the natural beauty of the location.

Link up and tell us about your favorite trips!

3 on Thursday - 4th of July

Holy moly.  How is it almost July?!?!  Time flies!
A huge THANK YOU for you lovely ladies who play along with Andrea and I. Getting to read your posts is such fun! I hope you have as much fun as we do each week.  :-)

3 on Thursday

This week's topic:
Favorite things about 4th of July
For me, this is an easy one!

Fireworks. So pretty!  And all the towns around me do great displays.  I just wish the pups were a little less skittish.  I feel bad for them.

My upcoming birthday. Is this cheating?  Probably.  But the 4th of July means I only have one week until my birthday.  :-)

Cookouts w/family and friends.  I love getting to spend some time with my friends and family.  I really enjoy getting to feed them some fun foods too.  (It's not fun just cooking for one, people!)

Please leave a comment and link up with Andrea and I!

3 on Thursday - The Name Game

Hi! Everyone having fun during this heat wave?  Oh...you're one of the few parts of the country that isn't having a heat wave?!  I don't like you.  {Kidding!!!} And neither does my amazing co-host Andrea.  {Still kidding.  She loves everyone!}
A huge THANK YOU to the lovelies that played along last week.  I know it had the potential to more thought provoking than our usual topics.

3 on Thursday

Back to something fun this week! Our topic this week is:
Names you would or absolutely would NOT name a future child.

I'll give you three for both sides of the question.  But feel free to just do three names you love or three you really dislike if that's what floats your boat.  :-)

Before I do - let me tell you a little name story.  When my mom was pregnant, my parents picked out the name Mariah. Right before I was born, my mom's cousin got a poodle puppy...and named her Mariah!  So obviously, my parents had to go back to the drawing board.  I'd like to credit my dad for picking the name I got.  Good job, dad!  And, a pretty hefty thanks to cousin Judy for naming her puppy Mariah...cuz I am NOT a Mariah! {Note: If I was a boy, my name would be Robert.}

Not happening:
Traditional names. Lord help me if I get a husband that fights for traditional names.  Don't get me wrong - there are a lot of really pretty names out there.  I just don't want my child to be one of three Jennifer/Mary/Lisa's or Michael/Joseph/Matthew's in their class.

Locations.  I've seen a wave of people name their kids after cities lately: London, Dallas, Houston and Phoenix.  I'm not knocking it... It just isn't for me.

Fruits or inanimate objects. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin can get away with naming their child Apple.  Beyonce and Jay-Z can make Blue Ivy sound cool.  In real life - um, no.

Names I like:
Classic names. You may think differently than I do, but I view classic names as something that people won't blink twice when they see...but you won't have more than one or two in your high school or college graduating class.  I like Audrey/Hope/Clara or Lucas/Henry/Nathan.

Celtic names. I'm mostly Scottish... so, to me, it just makes sense.  I'm a fan of Fiona/Ainslie/Maeve or  Lachlan/Callum/Keegan.

Biblical names. Sensing a trend?  Like the others, the names aren't really weird, but they aren't amazingly common either.  On my list are Noah/Caleb/Gabriel  Claudia/Hannah/Chloe.

OK, now have some fun, link up and be sure to drop by and visit Andrea too!

3 on Thursday - Act Your Age. Kinda.

Hey there, ladies!  I'm really growing to love Thursdays.  It gives me such a thrill when people play along with the questions that Andrea and I post each week.  {Have any good topic ideas?  Let us know!}

3 on Thursday

This week's topic:
Things you like best/worst about being your age.

I know, I know.  This week's topic isn't quite as light and airy as last week.  Sometimes, you learn more by asking a quasi serious question!  So keep an open mind, please. :-)

To make things fair - I'll break from the three format and give you four.  Two things I like best and two things I like the least. And yes...I cheated on the "best" list!
Best:
Confidence and perspective.  I'm still a pretty shy person.  But with age has come the confidence that I really am as smart, funny, and lovable as some fabulous people have told me.  Honesty, I'm a heck of a lot smarter than some people have given me credit for.  Just because they have advanced degrees does NOT make certain people smarter than me.  Education does NOT equal intelligence.

Freedom.   I'm sure that all adults appreciate the ability to make their own decisions and only need to justify their purchases, TV shows, cooking taste, etc. to only themselves or their partner.  :-) How many of you said  during your teenage years "Just wait until I'm an adult, mom and dad!"?

Bonus: Being my age puts me in the position that I can cook some great meals, know how to check my car oil, speak intelligently about politics {amongst other things}, and best of all be able to be active in dog rescue.

Bonus again: I look young enough that I get carded {most of the time} and don't get called "ma'am"; look old enough that I get taken seriously.
Worst:
Being alone.  I'm thrilled that all my friends and family have found their mates!  Getting to see the family {either blood or chosen family} grow is wonderful.  It's equally joyous getting to help welcome the kids into the world.  I love almost all of the kiddies in my life! Seriously!!!!  But, I'm still single and don't have kids. And sometimes the mommies and kiddies get together and I get forgotten.  Or I get invited but feel a little awkward because I can't contribute to the "aren't the toddler years the worst" convo or the "wow, you have 11 month old twins and are pregnant with another set of twins stuff". I absolutely know that people accept me for who I am...but I've always wanted to be a mom.  I really feel like I'm missing out on a big chunk of life... *Note: I'm kind of sensitive about letting people know that I feel sad about the lack of a husband and kids in my life.  Please be nice.*

Bills. Really, why are there so many freaking bills?  As you go from your twenties into your thirties, the bills seem to multiply!  Mortgage, property tax, home insurance, car insurance, cable, electricity, etc.  Dear companies, please do us all a favor and don't increase your rates this year! Ha!

You're turn! While you're at it, drop by and show the love to my fabulous co-host, Andrea!

3 on Thursday - Summer "Musts"

Hi Ladies!  Sorry I'm not my usual posting over-achiever by getting the post up by midnight.  Wednesday was a busy day in my tiny household.  I got my new puppy and my very first foster puppy!  Official announcement complete with pictures on Friday.  :-){Note: Andrea is having a busy spell as well, so she won't be co-hosting this week. So do a girl a favor and make me look good by linking up!}

3 on Thursday

Anywho...this week's topic is:
What are your 3 summer-time must do things (trips, family traditions, etc.)?

Peaceful Meadows Ice Cream
First, it isn't summer without a trip to Peaceful Meadows.  Seriously the best ice cream on the planet!  I really think getting to see the cows that the milk comes from make the experience that more special.  Just um...do yourself a favor and if you're going into the cow barn to visit the cows...go early enough that the barn doesn't stink yet.

Fireworks!  I love 'em.  My dogs hate them.  I can understand why...but they're just so darn pretty! I've gone into Boston to see the fireworks a handful of times and it's quite the experience.  There's a reason that our city's celebration gets televised every year...that's for sure!  However, I'm just as happy with a really small display that friend or family organize. :-)

Whale watching. I'm blessed enough to live very close to water - and have a natural affinity for it.  I just love boats, the beach, lakes, etc. The whale watching off of Plymouth is some of the best in the country in my opinion.  There never seems to be shortage of majestic whales just waiting for the tour boats!

What about you?  What's on your summer list?

3 on Thursday - Weird Foods

Thanks for coming back to spend a little quality time with Andrea and I.  We both appreciate you participating (and commenting!) on our humble little link-up.  :-)  Have topic ideas for upcoming weeks?  Tell us!

This week we're talking about weird foods...or at least foods you eat that others *might* consider odd/strange.

I'll level with you, I've eaten a LOT of weird food.  Most of it is stuff that was a once in a lifetime culinary experience. Here's a short list of things I've consumed...but will never do it again:
  • Haggis. During my first trip to Scotland at 16 years old.
  • Rocky Mountain oysters aka bull's balls.  I blame my dad for not telling me what I was eating. *gag*
  • Seal flipper stew. I blame my dad's mom's Newfoundland family for that one.  AND...In my defense I was 3 years old when I ate it.
  • Cow's tongue.  Note: Always ask the ranchers in your family exact what they are feeding you. I thought it was corned beef.  Wrong!
  • Snake. This was during a work trip to Arizona a few years ago.
  • Alligator. A burger at "Fast Eddie's" about a decade ago.  And, NO it does not taste like chicken.

3 on Thursday

Three foods you eat that others might think are strange/weird.

Calimari.  I love me some seafood, squid included!  I much prefer the round "body" of the squid than the slightly rubbery tentacles.  So tasty though.  In sixth grade, a science specialist came through and we did a dissection of squids.  It gave me a much better appreciation for where they come from...and how juvenile 6th grade boys are with ink sacks.

One of my favorite midnight snacks is pretzels and Nutella.  I personally, don't think it's too weird.  But I've been told that it is, so I'm counting it!  The combo of salty and sweet just can't be beat!

Sometimes, I'll put a scoop of ice cream in my coffee instead of milk and sugar.  What?!?!  It's all the same right?  It adds great flavor, adds a nice foam to the top and gives the drink a little extra body!

Time for you to share!  Link up! Visit my adorable co-host Andrea, and the other kids too.  :-)

3 on Thursday - What Won't You Do?

Welcome back to the day Andrea and I come up with fun questions!  This week is one that will let you go wild - see below.  :-) Really, have fun with it!
Drop by and visit my super-momma of a co-host, Andrea! Her kiddo is so cute it's ridiculous and I have a serious case of envy when it comes to her nail polish collection. Seriously

3 on Thursday

What 3 things will you absolutely not do?

I will not bungee jump.  People, I'm afraid of heights! PETRIFIED! The prospect of plunging to my death just gives me the heebie-jeebies.  However, I would skydive and I love rollercoasters.  Irony, thy name is Cole.

Smoking is way out of the question too for a number of reasons.  Your breath stinks! I've seen a pair of lungs from a recently deceased smoker. I'm premature, so I have small lungs AND I'm asthmatic. {Please know I'm not trying to offend anyone that smokes!}

This one is going to sound really stupid.  I don't dance in public. I did tap, ballet, jazz and modern dance from age three to sixteen and then again in college.  I love structured dance...but I don't sway well to the music and I'm really self-conscience.  Go ahead and laugh!

What won't you do?

Please remember to visit Andrea! You'll love her as much as I do. If you are linking up, please include our button or a link to our site. Link to your blog post and not your blog home page. Please visit your fellow participants to say hello. And all that jazz… you know, the usual.

3 on Thursday - Comfort Foods

Welcome back to a new round of 3 on Thursday!  My sparkling super-mommy of a co-host Andrea and I appreciate you playing along with us each week!  Make sure you drop by to say "hi" to her.  :-) She's pretty darn awesome!

I'm going to skip the longer spiel I post every week...in favor of just reminding you to: A. Leave Andrea or I a comment. B. Link up! C. Visit a few of the other lovely ladies who played along too. Please and THANK YOU!

3 on Thursday

This week's question:
What are your 3 favorite comfort foods?
Mac and cheese.  Not just anybody's mac and cheese - MY version.  I do it up with a real thick bechamel sauce followed by 45 minutes of baking that culminates in a panko & parm crust.  It is NOT waistline friendly...but I have a good list of people who ask for me to make them this recipe - including my mom! (aka the best cook I know!)

Mint chocolate chip ice cream.  Sure, I could probably survive with the store brand.  But I don't eat much of this stuff...so I tend to keep a few of the "good stuff" stockpiled in the freezer.  My favorites are Haagen Daaz and Ben & Jerry's.

Pineapple chunks.  Seriously...who has fruit as their comfort food?  Apparently, I do!  But it's only pineapple!  Give me an apple or orange when I'm sad, cranky or upset - and it's getting thrown back at you.  :-)

I want to know what your comfort foods are too!

3 on Thursday - Secret Single Behaviors

It's time for another fun round of 3 on Thursday!  Thank you all you lovelies that play along with Andrea and I.  We both fuzzy pink heart you! :-)  You're all Sex and The City fans, right?  Do you remember the episode where they talk about their secret single behaviors?  That's our topic this week! Andrea is a genius for picking this one, if I do say so myself! Be sure to drop by and read her answers too.  She's pretty awesome and I'm guessing - will have a few gems to share.
This week's question:
Share three secret single behaviors (Remember the SATC episode? Things you do you wouldn't want a man to see you doing)!

3 on Thursday

Sometimes, I only take the laundry out of the dryer that I immediately need.  Then, I wait a few days and fold up the sheets, towels, etc.  I know it sounds so lazy...but if I need jeans and a sweater at 7 AM, I usually don't have the time or the desire to fold the rest of the load.

I eat completely random stuff for meals more often than I'd like to admit.  A spoonful of Nutella while I wait for my coffee to come steaming out of the Keurig, only a banana and Special K cracker chips for dinner, trail mix as a snack at 2 AM.  In my defense - I'm single and live alone.  Making a big meal for one person is way more trouble than it's worth sometimes. Oh, and I went without a working kitchen sink for three months.

3. I rarely close the bathroom door.  My two little shadows {aka Meadow and Beckett}get REALLY angry if I try to close them out.  Last weekend, I closed the door {accidentally} before I got in the shower.  Two minutes of screeching - and Beckett was able to not only pop the door, but leaped into the shower with me too.

Quick reminder: Please remember that this is a “few rules” linky, so please post about the weekly topic in order to link up. Be sure to link to your specific blog post and not your blog. Finally - please do us a favor and visit some of the other ladies to see their answers!

3 on Thursday - Guilty Pleasures

I'm going to be honest here...when Andrea picked the topic this week, my first thought was "how do I narrow it down to three guilty pleasures?".  I have the guilty pleasures that I indulge in just a *little* too often and the really special gems that only happen once or twice a year.

Drop by and visit my co-host Andrea!  I think you'll love her as much as I do.  If you haven't seen the vlog her husband did - you NEED to watch it.  It is sooo funny!

3 on Thursday

Oh, I guess I should share with you what the actual question is, huh?!
What are your three guilty pleasures?

And, here are my guilty pleasures in no particular order.

COACH - SIGNATURE SATEEN CARLY 15250 - 24CM NWT $348 MSRP
Coach purses.  Something about their totes is both trendy and timeless in my opinion.  I only indulge {and even then it's almost always a present from others} every few years.

Books!  Books of all types.  Chick lit, horror, memoirs, fantasy.  You name it; I'll read it.  Have I mentioned that my mom did a one month e-book club in January and I ended up with over 100 new books?  And...that isn't going to stop me from buying more! {Note, we're reading the book above for book club this month.  Read along!}

The Seasons Collection® Grand Horizon White Down Side Sleeper Pillow, 600 Thread Count
You're going to laugh... but pillows are a guilty pleasure for me.  I mean, we all have pillows - but I don't admit to many people that I'm extremely picky about pillows.  I need the king sized, 100% down, side-gusseted (so the pillow is rectangle instead of kinda football shaped) pillows.  Thank goodness I can always find them at Home Goods when the need for a new pillow arises.  Buying retail would really stink! :-)

Quick reminder: Please remember that this is a “few rules” linky, so please post about the weekly topic in order to link up. Be sure to link to your specific blog post and not your blog. Finally - please do us a favor and visit some of the other ladies to see their answers!
